Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for leading a dynamic team which is providing order fulfillment to meet and exceed customer expectations. Fosters positive working relationships with customers in and outside of the company. Responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints and other employee relation matters. Such duties include verifying all orders that leave the facility, completing shipping documents, selecting contracted freight carriers, scheduling and routing freight carriers while upholding Malarkey's quality standards.

 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations for shipping department. Participates in safety improvement initiatives and programs. Reviews production schedule and monitors actual production for finished goods space utilization and order fulfillment.
  2. Arranges all shipping of prepaid loads from Portland. Partners with customer service department keeping them apprised of customer orders.
  3. Coordinates with outside trucking vendor to insure raw materials are delivered to the plant on time.
  4. Responsible for making sure transportation companies are treated with respect upholding Malarkey's reputation with every interaction and experience.
  5. Work with Logistics Manager regarding transportation reporting, tracking of performance and cost.
  6. Monitors plant and warehouse space on a daily basis to ensure FIFO methodology is followed with raw materials and shipment of finished goods.
  7. Ensures all products are stored and handled in the most safe, clean, organized and cost effective method possible.
  8. Supervises the unloading and arrival of inbound goods for production. Responsible for good communication between material suppliers and plant personnel. Promotes a sense of urgency to all past due orders.
  9. Works closely with various departments in the company including customer service, production, sales and accounting.
  10. Manages physical inventory counting of finished goods. Ensures proper standard operating procedures are in place for inventory counts.
  11. Supervises shipping employees’. Defines job responsibilities and assigns to appropriate individuals.
  12. Evaluates and trains employees by coaching and providing regular performance feedback; administers discipline, training and development on the job.
  13. Adjust employee work schedules to meet customer orders. Responsible for maintaining overhead costs in department.
  14. Works with Logistics Manager metrics for shipping performance. Coordinate across shifts and with other members of management team to review and implement a production plan to address other operation issues as required. Prepares ad hoc reporting on an as needed basis.
  15. Forward thinking challenging the status quo for operations within the shipping department.
  16. Participate in safety improvement initiatives and programs.
  17. Manages and approves employees’ time in timekeeping system.
  18. Champion regular shift meetings for shipping department. Lead, motivate and listen to team in order to effectively maintain and grow productivity.

 

Supervisor Responsibility

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible to carry out the full spectrum of leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, and to ensure that subordinate supervisors provide leadership to their respective teams.  Responsibilities include hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration, or related field is preferred, or 3-5 years equivalent experience in supply chain operations/warehouse management is preferred.

Strong communication skills both oral and written, accountability, detailed, organized and possess the ability to manage time and react to change productively and handle all other tasks as assigned.  Prior inventory control and ERP systems experience required. Strong computer skills either formal training or demonstrated. Ability to take initiative and make independent decisions. Strong planning, analytical and strategic thinking skills; ability to see the big picture while maintaining focus on daily details.

 

 

Physical Requirements

This position performs in an office and warehouse environment.  It is subject to hot and cold temperatures.  This position may require working outside of normal business hours. Tolerance for repetitive work in a fast paced, high productive work environment.  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, meet deadlines and work well under high pressure situations. Ability to differentiate colors and shades of colors.
