Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of Sales Representative will be to identify and acquire high quality, long-term, preferred distributor customers to support company growth. In addition to dealing with our distributor customers, interaction with contractors, architects and, homeowner groups, will be required. You will do this by giving sales presentations to prospective customers at businesses, shows, and exhibits, by performing the following:

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
  2. Acts as a primary sales agent for contact with distributors, roofing contractors and others in the side region. 
  3. Generate sales leads and call on potential new customers, Create and enhance relationships with new and current customers in order to sell products and services consistent with territory revenue and profitability goals.
  4. Prepares timely and accurate proposals working with customers and understanding requirements as needed in blueprints, plans and other specifications.
  5. Prepares and presents proposals to customers in a clear and convincing manner while answering questions and/or objections to secure the sale; negotiate terms and conditions of sales to best advantage of the company.
  6. Collects and reports on market intelligence; evaluates competitor activities and/or products in the territory.
  7. Maintains documentation of sales activities, customer contacts, and related expenses.
  8. Negotiating and problem solving skills are required. Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management.
  9. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  10. Provides historical records by maintaining records on area and customer sales.
  11. Maintains high standards of professional conduct in every customer and employee interaction.
  12. Travels within established territory as needed to build and continue relationships with new and existing customers. Maintains personal vehicle to utilize as a mobile office that represents the company in a professional manner.

Employee will make his/her best efforts to secure sales for Malarkey and will represent Company as directed.

  1. Territory Sales Growth – this will be defined based on the individual territory as recommended by management.
  2. Margin Maintenance – it is incumbent on the representative to uphold margin strategies as set forth by the company to secure the best possible prices for the product and services.
  3. New Customer Additions – primarily seeking the roofing contractor and roofing specified.
  4. Overall Competence – scheduling, reporting, market knowledge, product knowledge, task management, etc.
  5. Distributor Service – keeping approved distribution informed and supplied as necessary to promote Malarkey products.
  6. Claim Service – to follow through on product claims as directed.
  7. Communication to Malarkey - management regarding market conditions and any issues requiring resolve beyond the representative’s primary scope. Prompt follow through on any required reporting.
  8. Business Planning – through the use of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and task management through formal or informal CRM (Customer Relation Management) Systems.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience with three years business to business outside sales experience (preferably construction-related and/or industrial) with demonstrated skills and success in new account development. Requires a current and valid driver's license and a driving record indicating a history of safe and lawful vehicle operation.

Experience and a proven record of working with minimal supervision, self-motivation and personal time management. Excellent oral and written communications skills; demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with distributors, contractors, and team members. Requires knowledge of and experience with MS Office applications, Outlook, Excel, Customer Relations software packages, and standard office equipment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position performs in an office and warehouse environment. It is subject to hot and cold temperatures. This position may require working outside of normal business hours. Tolerance for repetitive work in a fast paced, high productive work environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, meet deadlines and work well under high pressure situations. Ability to differentiate colors and shades of colors. Vehicles are used as a mobile office for this position and must be clean inside and out at all times.
